How crew verification works

Every CrewNest member is real crew.

We manually review every member before they can book. Your future roommates are active pilots and flight attendants — not strangers from a Facebook group.

The 4-step verification flow

From signup to your first booking — here’s exactly what happens.

  1. 1

    Create your CrewNest account

Sign up with your work email (we strongly recommend using your airline email). Pick "Flight Crew" during signup.

  2. 2

    Upload your crew credentials

Inside your dashboard, upload a clear photo of your employee ID, crew badge, or current employment contract. All files are encrypted at rest in Supabase Storage.

  3. 3

We review in under 24 hours

A human on our team manually reviews every submission. No automated approvals. We cross-check name, airline, and document expiration before approving.

  4. 4

    Get your Verified Crew badge

Once approved you'll receive a confirmation email and a Verified Crew badge on your profile. You're cleared to book immediately.

Documents we accept

Any one of these is enough to verify — faster approval with the recommended document.

Recommended

Airline employee ID

Photo ID issued by your airline. Front side only — we mask any sensitive employee numbers before storing.

Crew badge / SIDA badge

Airport-issued crew or restricted-area badge. Must show your name, airline, and current validity.

Current employment contract

Useful if your airline has not issued a physical ID yet (new hires). Must be signed and dated within 180 days.

Union membership card

ALPA, AFA-CWA, SWAPA, APA, and similar US/international crew unions. Used alongside one secondary document.

Documents are encrypted in transit and at rest. We redact employee numbers and never share your documents with hosts. Files are automatically deleted after 12 months unless a dispute requires retention.

Why we do this

Host safety

Hosts open their home to crew. Manual ID checks mean they're never renting to a stranger pretending to be a pilot.

Why we do this

Community trust

A house with five verified crew feels different than a crash pad advertised on Craigslist. We protect that difference.

Why we do this

Crew-only perks

Loyalty discounts, women-only spaces, and airline-specific matching only work if every member is truly crew.

Verification FAQ

What if I'm no longer employed by the airline?+

CrewNest is for active airline crew. If you're on long-term leave we can still verify you with a valid return-to-work letter. If you've fully separated, you can still host but not book crew-only stays.

Can I verify with a signed contract if I have no ID yet?+

Yes. New hires often don't have their employee ID yet — we accept a signed, dated contract plus a government ID matching the name on the contract.

Why manual review — can't you automate this?+

We tried. Automated OCR gets fooled by screenshots, photoshopped IDs, and expired documents. A human reviewer catches these every week. Hosts trust us because we trust every crew member on the platform.

What happens to my documents after verification?+

Sensitive fields (employee numbers, document IDs) are redacted and the original file is retained encrypted for 12 months to support disputes. You can request deletion any time via your settings.

Do I have to re-verify every year?+

Light recheck every 12 months by confirming active employment. No need to re-upload documents unless your previous credentials have expired.
